Spurling returns to ALRT as it prepares for the ultimate test
At the traditionally packed press conference in the Garrick Club, Nick Evans announced the ALRT's squad for the opening match of the Argonaut Trophy against the (red hot favourites) Southern Amateur League (SAL).
Evans conceded that whilst facing the mighty SAL is "incredibly difficult", he would not park the bus in an attempt to keep the score down.
When he was asked about rumours of a training ground altercation between unnamed ALRT squad members and his relationship with his SAL counterpart (the fearsome Bob "Mack the Knife" Leeds), he answered with a straight bat which would have been far better utilised in the 3rd Test by Alastair Cook's men.
He finished by saying that he had not heard from Lord Horrocks Mufty (the AL's famously despotic chairman) and even if he had, Lord Mufty had no influence over team selection/formation (admittedly this last claim was the one moment of light relief in an otherwise tense conference).
